If you were to suddenly feel the symptoms of a major heart attack would you presume to believe that you know more about your body than any doctor possibly could, and seek your own solution to the problem? You could. And you would probably die.
If you perceive the obvious symptoms of a young life headed for destruction, will you choose to "go it alone" as the parent, or will you be wise enough to seek experts to help you intervene? It's really your choice. Your child really has few others to rely upon.
Many parents are, however, stuck in a very difficult situation: My child needs serious intervention and I can't afford $4,500-$8,500 per month for residential services (boot camps, treatment centers, therapeutic boarding schools, etc.). What do these parents do?
Read the following statement carefully: Boot camps, treatment centers, and therapeutic boarding schools are NOT the only solution for troubled teens. In fact, in many cases, they're the WORST solution. The 'Boot-Camp-Binge' that America has been on has received far too much credibility through the pop-culture televised spotlight. If you've already fallen for the lie that these programs are the only solution, and you simply don't have the money to employ them, then you must feel somewhat hopeless.
Take heart. There are other solutions. Do you realize that the entire Total Transformation Program costs less than placing your child for ONE DAY in some of these programs? Moreover, if you were to employ a local therapist to guide, support, and coach your family through the entire process, it would normally cost less per month than a few days in many residential programs?
But here's the true revelation: If you can turn your child around at home, using systems such as The Total Transformation Program, combined with a therapist, the likelihood that your child's changes will be permanent are greatly increased. Why? Residential programs fracture a family system - even if that system is not functioning properly. A child may actually do well in a program, then return home only to return to old behaviors when old triggers are encountered. It's not that the family OR the child are "bad." The problem is that the issues that needed to be discovered and addressed never were. The parents' ability to help was never enhanced. The child's ability to grow through his/her issues in a natural environment was never challenged.
Who can best inform you, counsel you, and help you know what to do next? We recommend contacting, interviewing, and employing the right therapist. Make a list of issues you feel your child needs to confront. Honestly create an inventory of your own concerns with regard to your strengths and weaknesses as a parent, especially with regard to how you are working with your teen's issues. Then start calling. Talk. Question. Get a feel for the therapist's strengths, experience, and ability to work not only with your teen, but with you.
We make no effort to hide our suggestion that you employ The Total Transformation Program. It is an outstanding starting AND ending point within your home. It provides unmatched tools for you as a parent. However, we also suggest seeking an additional expert with whom you may confide, question, and counsel. Below are some sites that provide outstanding resources for finding "the right" therapist. Do your homework. Save your teen.
