Critical Note Regarding Grief/Loss and Bereavement Help for Teens: In conjunction with ANY other intervention option implemented for teens struggling with grief issues, we recommend a serious look at the Total Transformation Program. Why? Read Here, or consider the intervention comparison on the right. Also note that we (the authors of InsightPros) are professionals in the residential treatment care industry. We have operated residential treatment centers at every professional level, from line staff to transitional and executive directors. We know the strengths and the vast weaknesses of residential programs, including many that inappropriately house grieving teens with gang members, addicts, and others without advising the parents of the "cement mixer" treatment environment of their program. Before you throw your money into a bereavement or grief/loss treatment program do your homework, and take an honest look at working with your teenager's grief/loss issues in conjunction with a therapist and/or The Total Transformation Program.

In our work with teens struggling with grief and loss, and parents trying to work with the often difficult symptoms of teen depression, we have discovered that parents are too often so stressed by their children's behaviors (or symptoms) that they feel unable to address the root of the problems.

We recommend both therapy and an alternative approach to parenting, especially prior to employing overly aggressive authoritative intervention (incarceration or enrollment in a residential treatment program), unless the troubled teen's issues are so severe that such intervention is deemed necessary by you (the parents) and a therapeutic professional.

Unless safety and security is an issue (suicidal ideation), we normally recommend a graduated plan of intervention that begins with the home, then extends, as needed, to therapy, community, and out-of-home care. This Non-Impulsive approach is important when coping with bereavement issues.

In addition to our Strong Model Workshops and Coaching Services, we use this site to maximize the amount of information you can obtain on grief and loss issues.

Grief, Loss and Bereavement: Parenting Relationship

Parenting Awareness: Teens struggling with grief, loss, and bereavement issues may display sadness, anger, anxiety, guilt, and despair. They may struggle with changes in sleep patterns and appetite, as well as physical illness.

InsightPros suggests therapeutic intervention, not only to help soothe and heal, but also to avert the potential escalation of grief-loss and bereavement-related issues. We further suggest that adults learn alternative forms of parenting that are more appropriate in helping teens cope with grief, loss, and bereavement issues.

Strong Model workshops and other forums on InsightPros help parents not only recognize the importance of focusing upon the strength of the family and the parenting relationship to help the troubled child, but also help parents understand how to interact in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

A caring, insightful, "authority-level" relationship with a teen struggling with grief loss and bereavement issues is among the most important relationships in a grieving teen's life.
