Not all therapists are alike. The ReFraming Parenting Program is based upon principles
that work extremely well with therapists who have training and experience
in family and relationship issues. We suggest you look for a Licensed Marriage
and Family Therapist (LMFT). An exceptional site through which you can search
for a therapist in your area is www.therapistlocator.net. Parenting Help for Troubled Teens and Children |
You may wonder if caring is enough. |
Don't give up ..... Your care is a critical part of your child's strength |
The Reality of Teen Treatment and Parent Help Although SIM believes that the ideal level of care for a troubled child is within the walls of the home, we know that many children simply need a more structured environment. However, most teens who are placed in treatment eventually return home. And when they do, most parents aren't prepared. |
Is Treatment Really Necessary? How can you measure your child to determine whether or not out-of-home treatment care is necessary? Many websites and marketers in this industry have parents fill out a questionnaire which inevitably returns the response: Place now (especially if you have the money to pay for treatment). May we suggest a little wisdom: Before trusting a teen cyber-expert or marketer, and definitely before placing your child in a costly treatment program, have your child see a local, qualified therapist. Keep our site and services in mind as you do so, and ask your therapist what he/she feels would be the best course of action to help your troubled teen or child. Taking the time to do this is valuable to your teen's welfare, your family relationships, AND to your pocketbook. A very helpful resource in finding a local therapist is www.therapistlocator.net. We suggest that you have a therapist at home before doing anything in this industry. There are more organizations and individuals who feign concern for you and your teen, and who are truly interested in your money, than you might realize. They prey and depend upon parent anxiety. A therapist can help you develop a logical treatment plan for your troubled teen, and won't be motivated by marketing concerns. |
Our Thoughts on Treatment The most important level of discipline is self-discipline (see the RF Model). Group influences can be positive or negative. The closest level of positive group care and discipline to the child should be the family, followed by other social influences. But even if your child is involved in a negative peer group, there are things you can do to help your child see that his/her own strength and well-being is of greater importance than that of the group. Out-of-Home Treatment care should come after all other options are exhausted. Are you, as a parent, employing all the tools possible to keep your family together, and to bring solutions into your home? Whether your child is being considered for treatment, is currently placed in a program, or has completed a program, you are still the most important authority figure in his/her life. The ReFraming Treatment Program places within your grasp the tools necessary for you to capitalize upon your place in his/her life. |
