SIM receives questions from various sources regarding its ReFraming Parenting Program and other services. These include parents, therapists, educational consultants, etc. In this forum we try to answer, as concisely as possible, the most common questions.

Q:  Are there any costs of treatment beyond the prices quoted by SIM?
A:  The ReFraming Parenting Program, entailing each of its three components (ReFraming Families, Unity, and Achievement) is set at $9,750 as a stand-alone product, but is included in the price of the Insight Technical Academy. These costs, for the services listed, cover the full price of the program. Non-standard services, such as educational support products, teen transport and care services, etc., are marketed separately, normally by other companies, and carry their own fees.

The ReFraming Seminar has a total cost of $495/couple (or $275/individual), which covers admission for two adults in an 8-hour workshop. Travel, room, and board are the responsibility of participants.

ReFraming Coaching Online has a graduated cost, depending upon the subscription desired: $48.75 for one month of services, $133.50 for a three month subscription (equates to $44.50 per month), or $485 for a 12-month subscription (equates to $40.42 per month). This pays for scheduled participation in a weekly, one-hour coaching meeting with a SIM staff member and other parents who are implementing ReFraming concepts in their home.

Insight Academy costs $5,200 per month for nine months, with a $2,000 enrollment fee. Additional costs are associated with extraordinary medical, educational, or living expenses.

Beyond Boarders costs $2,750 per month for nine months, with a $2,000 enrollment fee. Students and/or family are responsible for apartment rental, food, transportation, and medical costs. The program is an adult transitional program which provides therapy, academic services, and vocational development. It does not "contain" students within the walls of a treatment center.

Q:  What can the ReFraming Parenting Program do to help my child?
A:  Parents, above all other people, have the insight to help their children with the many problems they are facing. Sometimes a child's issues escalate to a point in which parents feel they need more help. Often, however, parents who are strong enough to seek help, merely need new skills that will bring powerful solutions to their child within the walls of their home. These parents build extremely strong bonds with their children as they work through solutions together.

Q:  Do you offer any kind of guarantee on your services?
A:  Yes. We offer a
$1,500 money-back guarantee on the ReFraming Parenting Program. We are also willing, on a case-by-case basis to cooperate with different treatment programs, at their request, in offering our services as part of their guarantees.

Q:  Are there some treatment centers that you recommend?
A:  Although we do not make recommendations to programs
outside our own alliance, we may, from time to time, list other treatment programs that agree with our treatment philosophy. If families decide to employ non-SIM out-of-home treatment, we make no recommendations, though we will provide references. Non-SIM enrollment, however, does not qualify students for the SIM college and vocational scholarship funds.

Q:  My child is already in treatment. Do you still recommend this program?
A:  Yes. If your child is in treatment, you have already exhibited the strength to seek solutions for your child. Our approach does not leave that solution solely in the hands of an out-of-home treatment program. Ideally, we begin before out-of-home treatment, continue through such treatment (if necessary), and provide post-treatment support. If your child is already in a treatment program, he or she will eventually come home. We help you with skills, systems, and opportunities to make the return home a smooth transition to success. Our program reinforces your child's long-term development in the family.

Q:  I noticed that part of your program requires me to attend training without my child. What do I do with her while I'm attending your program?
A:  There are many options for reasonable care while you attend ReFraming Families. A number of organizations have offered to provide day programs for your child while you are in training. These carry their own costs, but have promised to augment their activities with concepts oriented toward ReFraming principles. We provide contact information on these organizations when requested. If your child's issues do not require constant attention, you may also allow your child to stay with family or friends. Should you need slightly more structured care you may find the services of a local youth crisis center to be beneficial. If you choose to take ReFraming Unity immediately following ReFraming Families you will probably need to employ youth services, or some form of care local to the training site. Again, we can provide you with information in this regard at your request.

Q:  I've attended other parent-help programs. Why does your program cost so much?
A:  Contrary to initial appearances, The ReFraming Parenting Program is not simply a parent-help seminar. Although family-oriented solutions are pursued, the ultimate objective is to help the child turn his/her life around. This encompasses the unification of numerous resources to support you, the parent (through training and support forums), and enhance the likelihood of the child's long-term success (through student forums, potential scholarships, etc.). Various forms of research, continually developing technology, well-trained and educated staff, etc., all combine to create the ReFraming Parenting Program. It is for these purposes that the program is priced the way it is ($9,750 per year - stand alone). However, we stand unique among treatment programs, in that we are so confident in the power of our approach (and in your and your child's abilities) that we offer a
$1,500 money-back guarantee on services. In addition, our costs are somewhat low, compared to other treatment options.

Q:  When I was reviewing your program I noticed that your support system includes chat rooms and conference forums. What is the difference between the two?
A:  Chat rooms are staffed by SIM employees and experienced program clients. They are free for the support of students and parents alike. The conference services are used as the preferred forum for coaching services. They include live voice, whiteboard, diagraming, and other conferencing functions. These are part of the ReFraming Achievement component of the ReFraming Parenting Program. Parents who use these forums have the advantage of gaining continued staff support, peer-group problem solving, etc., for twelve months following ReFraming Families.

Q:  Aside from the cost benefit, are there any other reasons I should consider using your treatment program over an out-of-home program?
A:  Many of the reasons are answered in this forum. However, additional reasons include the fact that if your child is able to find solutions to his/her problems while at home, he/she will be stronger than those who are sent away from the home environment, "fixed" or "worked upon," then returned to the original environment. The parent-child relationship grows during this time, whereas extracting your child from the family system can damage your parent/child relationship, and can create problems that didn't exist before. There are many, many more reasons to seek solutions as closely as possible to where the problems exist. You don't have to go very far to get the help your child really needs. It may already be there in the home.

Not all therapists are alike. The ReFraming Parenting Program is based upon principles that work extremely well with therapists who have training and experience in family and relationship issues. We suggest you look for a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). An exceptional site through which you can search for a therapist in your area is www.therapistlocator.net.
